In 2017, over 75 thousand people across Australia saw a Surf Online Safe presentation.
Young people between the ages of 12 and 18 make up almost 43% of all internet users, whilst over 90% of teenagers use social networking on a daily basis. The online world is vastly different from how the Gen X and even Gen Y grew up and it is a constant worry for parents to try and keep their teenagers safe and responsible online.
Teenagers have embraced the online world at full pace. With that in mind Surf Online Safe specifically target this age group.
It is this demographic that is the most at risk and as such, it is this age group that my efforts are aimed at. This is the main reason Surf Online Safe was created.
My very informative, interactive and fun presentations are not designed to scare our teens away from the internet, but to have them understand the risks and to observe the warning signs. In 2017, I presented to over 75 thousand students across Australia. So things are well and truly on the rise for SOS.
I show how to use social networking safely and appropriately whilst still enjoying interaction with their friends and peers and at the same time, taking worry away from parents.
I have been presenting to many of my schools for 5 years (since I started). It is very humbling to have the same kids greet you each year with excitement, knowing they are about to hear a 'decent talk', rather than a 'boring lecture' from someone else who only ever seems to criticise or deride.
